Hugo Duro: “Getting into the Copa del Rey final makes the team play with a different mentality”

Hugo Duro is one of Valencia CF’s leading goalscorers this season and he is aware of the importance of keeping the positive run going after the international break. The striker gave his take ahead of the return to LaLiga action at home to Cádiz CF.     

 Motivated

We're looking forward to the final part of the season, because we're on a good run and are gradually latching on to the teams ahead of us. We also have the cup final coming up, and we're really looking forward to it.

Good dynamic

We're feeling good and the results are good. It's always a good time to get into a dynamic like that. After the international break we have to keep it going and compete in the same way, getting the best results that we can.

Calendar

The calendar is what it is. Other times, we've gone into the international break winning and come back with a win, whilst other times we've lost and then come back with a defeat. The calendar is what it is, and we need to prepare for next weekend's game.

Different mentality

We're calm, and motivated to do big things. Getting through to the cup final gives us a boost in LaLiga and we've taken better results since then. I think that the team are playing better and are calmer now. It's a different mentality, and it has to help us to win as many games as possible before the end of the season.

Difficult games coming up

We take things game by game, because it's gone well for us so far. Even though the opponents aren't high up the table, that doesn't mean that they are easy to beat. Sometimes, the lower down the table the opposition, the more difficult the game, because there is more at stake. A team fighting to stay up know that each game is a final. We aren't going to have any easy games, whether they be against teams at the top or the bottom of the table.

Keep on fighting in LaLiga

Until it is mathematically impossible for us to get into Europe, we won't stop fighting for that. We are going to push for any chance that we have. It's going to be difficult, because there are some very good teams and we have that little gap between us, but four games ago it looked very difficult and we've clawed points back now. We're going to keep trying.

Defensive solidity

We are aware that the deficit from the first half of the season was down to the goals that we conceded. We're scoring goals and have been playing well, but we've dropped a lot of points due to us conceding too many goals. We've kept clean sheets in recent games and we've got wins as a result. When the opponents don't score, the least that you get is a draw.

Return to action

There are many games ahead. We're going to focus on LaLiga, which is the important thing for the time being. The final will come, and we will try to enjoy it and win it. Hopefully we can all celebrate it together.

Copa del Rey final           

I think that it's the most important game, because there is a trophy and a European spot at stake. It's just a game away. But we have to keep going in LaLiga and get good results, in order to have a good feeling going into that game. We have to treat these league games as preparation for getting to the final in the best shape possible. We need to have the league option as well, just in case; hopefully that's not needed, but we need to be close.

Maximum demand

The end of the year is the most important part. We can't drop our pace; not just me, but anybody on the team. Everybody needs to push in this last stage of the season, because it's the most important and we need everybody.

Amb ganes

Tenim ganes d'aquest tram final. Travessem una bona ratxa i ens estem enganxant, a poc a poc, a la part de dalt. També tenim per davant la final de Copa. Tenim moltes ganes.

Bona dinámica

Els resultats i les sensacions estan sent bones. Sempre és un bon moment per a tindre una dinàmica així i després de l'aturada hem de seguir amb ella i traure els millors resultats que puguem.

Calendari

El calendari és el que és. Algunes vegades ens n'hem anat a l'aturada guanyant i hem tornat guanyant, i altres hem arribat a ell perdent i hem tornat igual. Aleshores, és igual, el calendari és com és, i hem de centrar-nos en preparar el partit del cap de setmana que ve

Mentalitat diferent

Estem tranquils, amb ganes de fer grans coses. El passe a la final de la Copa del Rei ens va donar un respir en la LaLliga i, a partir d'ací, l'equip juga més tranquil i amb una mentalitat diferent que ens ha de servir per a, d'ací a final d'any, guanyar els màxims partits possibles.

Partits complicats

Pensem en el partit a partit perquè així ens està anant bé. Encara que a nivell de classificació els pròxims rivals no estiguen molt amunt, això no significa que vagen a ser partits fàcils. Moltes vegades, com més a baix estiguen, més difícil, perquè es juguen més la vida. Els equips que lluiten per eludir el descens saben que cada partit és una final i l'afronten així. D'ací a final d'any no tindrem cap partit fàcil.

Continuar lluitant en LaLiga

Fins que no siga matemàtic que en LaLiga no podem aconseguir les places europees, no deixarem de lluitar. Arribarem fins al final, esgotant les opcions. Està clar que és difícil perquè hi ha molt bons equips i tenim un xicotet desavantatge. Però, fa quatre jornades ho véiem supercomplicat i ara estem més a prop.

Solidesa defensiva

A part que ens ho demanava el míster, nosaltres també érem conscients que el nostre dèficit la primera part de la temporada era la nostra porteria. A nivell ofensiu estàvem fent gols i l'equip ha estat bé, però hem deixat de sumar punts per encaixar gols de més. I Ara, aquests últims partits, hem deixat la porteria a zero i hem tret victòries. I, quan no es pot marcar gol, almenys aconseguim un empat. L'important és sumar.

Tornada a la competició

Toca continuar competint. Aquesta vegada tenim la sort de tornar a jugar a casa, amb la nostra afició. Sempre és millor per a nosaltres, ja que són un gran suport i això ens ajuda. Volem continuar la dinàmica i intentar traure els tres punts.

Final de Copa

Queda molt encara. De moment, ens centrarem en LaLiga. Ja arribarà la final, la gaudirem tots i intentarem guanyar-la. Tant de bo ho puguem celebrar tots junts. És veritat que és el partit més important perquè et pot donar un títol i classificar-te per a Europa, però cal continuar fent-ho bé en LaLiga. Hem de traure bons resultats per a arribar amb bona dinàmica a eixe partit. També ens hem de prendre els partits de LaLiga com a preparació per a arribar de la millor manera possible a la final.

Màxima exigencia

No cal baixar. Tothom ha d'esprémer-se en aquest tram final. Necessitem el millor de cadascun.
